My Body Told Me

My body told me
Made me understand
Flashbacks, and nightmares
I cannot stand

My body told me
Even when I doubted myself
It stood right by me
Until I screamed for help

My body told me
There was a pain inside
The message is clearly
Internally inscribed

My body told me
It was validating itself
It’s wiser than the mind
Because it’s made with something else.

My body told me
When no one believed my words
The inner child is in anguish
And is pulling me backwards

My body told me
It gives her, her voice back
She tells me her story
But there’s a code to unwrap

My body told me
My biology is dysfunctional
I can’t do life
Like the rest of you all

My body told me
When my brain cannot recollect.
It watches me fumble
As I remember the neglect.

My body told me
It has all of the answers for me
When I feel scared and broken
My body is there for me.
